Inside choices

Someone wrote, of a six-year-old, once:
She's currently refusing to go outside.
I responded:
She can't refuse if no one is pressuring or demanding.

  1. The exchange above was in 2016. In 2021, opting to stay inside can be virtue, necessity, or comfort. I myself have turned down invitations to "go outside" (to outdoor gatherings, or restaurants) lately, because home is nicer. For me, these days, outside requires portable oxygen, with a mask over that, and my glasses on top of those. I end up tethered to the shopping cart, or to my chair.

I am politely opting out of leaving the house, for a while. Demands or pressure might be met with refusal. :-)

    Next year might be different.
