"Do we have to learn this?"

photo P3130116.jpgMy children have never asked, "Do we have to learn this?" They don't have to learn anything. So everything is equally fun for them. The joy of unexpected discovery is the substance of a typical unschooling day.

  1. Also: "Will this be on the test?" is never one of their criteria for judging the value of something. Or at least it wasn't until they started college. :-p

  2. Sometimes a teacher would say to me, after I had just asked a question about something I was genuinely excited about, because I was curious:

"You don't need to know that until next year."
"That won't be on the test."

So I usually went and got the answer from a book, or someone else.
