Sweeter water
Water handed to you nicely is a lot nicer than water slammed at you and sloshed.
It's got to be better for you, because you can drink it calmly and sweetly, without trying to choke it down when you feel like you're going to cry.
Be gentle.
(The quote about water is from
Partnerships and Teams in the Family.)

Nice!
My son is finishing his last semester of an economics degree. I helped proofread a paper Monday night and one of his section headings was "Trade Goods and Bads."That was cute, and was a good header, as the text went.
The next morning, my friend called from Clearlake, in California. I was asking about the neighborhood, and she said that up and around the lake was a place called "Nice." Nice!
Nicer things can make you smile. Smiling is nice.

This post used to end with "Smiling is better for peace and calm."
That's true, but I think the ending is better without it, rhythmically, poetically.
(Edited the evening of the day it went out by e-mail with the longer ending.)

Slower

Many things are made better by slowing down. Touching a child is nicer in slow motion than abruptly. Responding to a question can be improved by a pause as long as a single breath.Lisa J Haugen wrote:
That's why I love the 'add light and stir' blog title. It's such a lovely image—add a little bit, let it swirl into your life, and incorporate. Add a little more. Gently and slowly.

Nice harmony
This is from Gail Higgins, written around 2005.
As I became more aware of my kids needs and responded to that it just naturally carried over to my husband.
Our relationship is so much stronger now and part of it is just because I'm nicer now! I think I used to be so controlling of our lives that it affected us all in a negative way. I'm still working on it but just the awareness of what I was doing has led to changes.
There are very few times when our lives don't seem in harmony these days...it's the best bonus I could have ever imagined.
